Five repetitive tasks you can automate this month
You don't need a big project to start with automation. Most businesses have small, repetitive tasks that take a few minutes each but add up across a week. Here are five that are usually quick to automate.
1. Replying to new enquiries
Send an instant reply when someone gets in touch through your website, email or social messages. Confirm their message has arrived, say when you'll respond, and share any useful links.
2. Appointment confirmations and reminders
When a booking is made, send a confirmation automatically, then a reminder a day or so beforehand. It saves you messaging people one by one and helps more customers arrive on time.
3. Following up on quotes
If a quote has had no reply after a set number of days, send a short, friendly follow-up. It keeps the conversation going without you having to track every open quote yourself.
4. Copying details between tools
If you find yourself retyping the same customer details into a calendar, a spreadsheet and an invoicing tool, those tools can often be connected so the details move across automatically.
5. Following up after a call
When you can't answer the phone, send a short message to let the caller know you'll be in touch, and log the call so it is followed up.
How to choose where to start
Start with the task that annoys you most or takes up the most time. Write down the steps you take today, then decide which parts a system could do and where you still want to check things yourself. Automate one task, test it, and only then add the next.
The aim isn't to automate everything. It's to free up time for the work only you can do.
